Poul Holm's main field of interest is marine environmental history, and at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society he is writing an environmental history of world fisheries. Holm is Trinity Long Room Hub Professor of Humanities at Trinity College Dublin and director of the Irish Digital Arts and Humanities PhD program. He is the former president of the European Society for Environmental History. In 2009, he chaired the European Union expert group that conducted the METRIS Report on Emerging Trends in Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities in Europe. Currently he is president of the European Consortium of Humanities Institutes and Centres.
