Javier Puente Awarded Marysa Navarro Best Book Prize

Society of Fellows member Javier Puente‘s book The Rural State: Making Comunidades, Campesinos, and Conflict in Peru’s Central Sierra, published in January 2023, has just received the 2023 Marysa Navarro Best Book Prize conferred by the New England Council of Latin American Studies.

The Rural State is a study of the intersection of rural populations, state formation, and the origins of potential conflict in Peru. It follows the struggles with policies, politics, and social issues of the people of the Peruvian Central Sierra throughout the twentieth century.
